5 Reasons You're Tired All the Time

Chances are it's one of these five things...

1. You're not getting enough (or getting too much) sleep

It seems obvious, but many people don't get the right amount of sleep at night. With work, family, and friends, it can be easy to overlook all those missed hours of sleep.

And for those who aren't constantly busy, it can be easy to sleep in and get far too much sleep.

Both too little and too much sleep can cause you to feel groggy, irritable, and fatigued.

Research shows that you need between seven and nine hours of sleep every night to stay healthy and energized.1

2. You're stressed, depressed, or anxious

If your mental state isn't at its best, you can experience serious sleep problems. Depression, anxiety, and excessive stress can cause insomnia (not being able to sleep) or hypersomnia (excessive sleeping or sleepiness).2, 3

Mindfulness and meditation can help improve your mental state and put your mind at ease. Aromatherapy can also help you fall asleep. Give these a try.

3. You're not getting enough exercise

It seems counterintuitive, but exercise can actually boost your energy levels rather than make you sleepy.

Many people today live a sedentary lifestyle — driving everywhere, working at a desk, sitting on the couch, taking the elevator or escalator. Staying sedentary causes your blood to stagnate and your energy levels to plummet.4

Try going for a walk and stretching every hour. It may take up a lot of your time, but you'll make up for it with increased productivity.

4. Your diet isn't what it should be

Eating processed foods, too many carbs, and not enough nutrient-rich foods will make you constantly feel tired.

Not only do poor eating choices lower your energy during the day, but they also cause you to get poor sleep at night. Even more, a bad diet can lead to weight gain, which contributes to chronic sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea.

It's essential to stay hydrated as well. Dehydration can cause tiredness, fatigue, and poor sleep.5 Excessive alcohol and caffeine consumption can also reduce the quality of your sleep.6

5. You have an unaddressed health issue

Many people can develop sleep disorders later in life. In fact, you may have a sleep disorder and not know about it.

If your spouse regularly complains about your snoring, you should talk to your doctor to rule out sleep apnea.7

Vitamin and mineral deficiencies or toxins built up in your body can also lead to low energy levels and poor sleep.

Talk to a medical professional about scheduling a checkup and sleep study to rule out any problems with your health.
