Hotel Pools pose SERIOUS health risk

When it comes to beating the summer heat, nothing beats a refreshing trip to the swimming pool right?

WRONG

Because public pools, hot tubs and other shared bodies of water could be the biggest single threat to your health this summer.

According to the CDC there have been over 27,000 cases of bacterial outbreaks in America since 2000.

These include the common Cryptosporidium which causes nausea and stomach pain but also Legionella the much deadlier source of Legionnaires disease.

And while deaths are rare, there have been some truly terrifying accounts of flesh-eating bacteria contracted from hot tubs, like an account that proved to be fatal to a poor Florida woman.

Unfortunately the source of these is extremely gross.

So if you’re eating anything... or about to eat anything you may want to click away. But if you’re concerned about your health, and the health of your family, you probably want to know this.

Because the biggest culprit appears to be human feces.

Specifically humans who go swimming when they have diarrhea, or otherwise haven’t cleaned themselves properly.

In fact the Center for Disease Control says the main way to fight these bacterial outbreaks is to not swim if you have diarrhea.

But that fact should be obvious to any sane, right-thinking individual.

The fact that you even have to tell that to people is ludicrous.

And unfortunately fancy hotels like the Four Seasons aren’t going to spare you.

Bacteria doesn’t know whether you’re paying $99 a night or $599 a night.

So unfortunately unless you have more trust in human nature than I do, you may want to avoid public pools this summer.

And especially avoid public pools at hotels, which make up the biggest percentage of bacterial outbreaks.

And yes chlorine does help — though chlorine resistant bacteria are becoming an increasing concern. Plus the chlorine itself can pose serious health problems...

According to the New York Times:

“Urine, along with body care products like shampoos, lotions and conditioners, interacts with chlorine to form volatile organic compounds that can be unhealthy to breathe.”

And it doesn’t even always do the job it’s supposed to do...

“The other issue with chlorine is that, although it can be extremely effective in killing germs, it doesn’t kill every germ right away. “

If you still insist on swimming in public pools, there are a few steps you can take to protect yourself.

Obviously be very careful not to swallow any water.

Take a hot shower immediately after.

And make sure you’re promoting your immune system with healthy natural means, like probiotics sourced from fermented foods.

(My favorite source is a raw sauerkraut, the kind you can get at Trader Joes, Whole Foods and even Amazon)

But If I were you, I would stick to private pools....

Of course public pools aren’t the only threat to your health this summer.

In fact a popular hot weather activity performed by 64 million Americans could be wrecking your knees and joints.

To your health,
