Make Your Own Milk
Many of my patients brag that they are no longer on dairy products, and use nut milk instead.
I applaud the effort to avoid dairy. Dairy is not paleo food and most adults have symptoms from its use. Cows milk is for baby cows. Our ancestors never chased other animals to milk them and make cheese, butter, yogurt, or ice cream.
But before you buy nut milk from the grocery store, here are a few things to think about.
1) They contain preservatives
2) They contain emulsifiers
3) They are housed in a wax/plastic/paper container that leeches into the milk. Imagine the temperature inside the delivery truck as the nut milk shows up at your local grocer. Out here in Arizona, that thought is quite scary.

Instead, make your own nut milk. This is probably the single easiest recipe since boiling water or making toast.
1) Get out your blender (you may as well use it, given how expensive it was)
2) Add your favorite nut (almond, walnut, pecan, macadamia, etc.), seed (pumpkin, sesame, etc), or coconut flakes
3) Add water
5) Strain (optional).
The typical ratio of nut to water is about 1:2.
Store in a glass container for 4-5 days in your refrigerator. Some folks may prefer to strain it first in a milk bag.
Add cinnamon for a little extra kick. Honey can be used as a sweetener as can stevia. Use this in any recipe that calls for milk.
