Popular headphones linked to CANCER

Are you putting these potential carcinogens in your ears every day?

Alex Reid here with your Monday roundup.

I just threw away my favorite headphones.

Now, part of that is my commitment to mindfulness — I'm working to pay more attention and live in the current moment, even when I do things like chores, workouts, or walking.

So I've mostly stopped listening to music and podcasts in my headphones.

But the other part is this:

Recent concerns have arisen that the Bluetooth radiation emitted by wireless headphones could actually CAUSE CANCER.

Of course, the billion-dollar companies that manufacture these devices claim they're completely safe.

But for me, the risk of having this unproven technology just centimeters from my brain each day is enough.

And I'm in good company:

"My concern for AirPods is that their placement in the ear canal exposes tissues in the head to relatively high levels of radio-frequency radiation,” says Jerry Phillips, a professor of biochemistry at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.

He mentions tumors and other conditions associated with abnormal cell functioning as some of the potential risks.

In other cancer risk news, an alarming amount of kale has been found to contain a carcinogenic chemical.

Apparently a recent USDA study uncovered multiple pesticide residues that have the potential for real harm in humans.

Higher consumption of nuts has been linked to a wide range of beneficial outcomes.

According to one of the study's authors:

By eating more than 10 grams (or two teaspoons) of nuts per day older people could improve their cognitive function by up to 60 per cent– compared to those not eating nuts – effectively warding off what would normally be experienced as a natural two-year cognition decline.
