The Secret to Fighting Diabetes and Obesity?

Dear Reader,

It’s no secret that diabetes and obesity are a problem in the U.S. Researchers estimate that 39.8% of American adults are obese and an additional 31% are overweight.

That’s over half of America!

With obesity often comes diabetes, which can lead to numerous health issues and even a shorter lifespan.

The question is this: How can you help protect yourself from diabetes and obesity so you live a long, healthy life?

It all starts with a healthy diet, no surprise.

But there’s one secret food that has been shown to obliterate diabetes and obesity unlike any other. This food is natural, it keeps you full, and it’s rich in numerous vital nutrients.

We’re talking about avocado.

There has been some controversy surrounding avocado in the past because of its high fat content. But don’t worry — there are many types of healthy fats.

In fact, some fats can help make you slimmer!

Avocado is rich in monounsaturated fat, which is fantastic for cardiovascular health and optimizing your cholesterol levels.

Monounsaturated fats can even help you stay full for longer.

According to one study, those who have an avocado with breakfast are less likely to overeat and snack later in the day, especially those who are most likely to develop Type II diabetes.

There’s also a powerful fat molecule in avocado called avocatin B (AvoB). This molecule has been shown to reduce insulin resistance which can help lower your risk of type II diabetes significantly.

Avocados go perfectly with any meal. They are a much healthier and filling alternative to carbohydrates.

Avocados are also rich in vitamins, minerals, and other important nutrients that help support the entire body, including:

  • B vitamins
  • Vitamin K
  • Potassium
  • Magnesium
  • Antioxidants (including carotenoids)
  • Fiber
  • Vitamin E
  • Vitamin C

Choosing the best avocados can be tricky at first, but it won’t take long before you’re a pro.

Start by holding an avocado in the palm of your hand. If you squeeze it and there’s no give, it’s not ready to eat just yet. If there’s some give, but it springs back into shape, it’s ready for you to enjoy. If it squishes but doesn’t retain its shape, it’s too ripe.

You can use these simple tricks to make sure your avocados never go bad (or aren’t too hard to eat):

  • Know how many you are going to eat this week. (If you buy too many, they could go bad — even in the fridge!)
  • Choose avocados on the softer side if you are going to eat them within 48 hours.
  • Choose harder avocados if you plan on eating them within 3–7 days.
  • Put softer avocados in the fridge to help keep them from getting too ripe.
  • Leave out hard avocados to speed up ripening. (It can take 1–3 days to ripen.)
  • Leave the pit in your avocado and put it in an air-tight container to save it for later.
  • Brush olive oil and lemon juice on a cut avocado to save it without excessive oxidation.
