Why You Can’t Kick Your Sugar Addiction (and how to fix it starting tonight!)

Sugar is addictive. Science proves it.

Harvard Medical School publishes:

The effects of added sugar intake — higher blood pressure, inflammation, weight gain, diabetes, and fatty liver disease — are all linked to an increased risk for heart attack and stroke.

And, suddenly that sweet brownie or piece of candy looks less attractive…

So why do so many people struggle with kicking sugary foods to the curb?

Sleep could partially be to blame.

Columbia University's Irving Medical Center studied about 500 women — monitoring their sleeping and dietary patterns.

After conducting this study for a year, they’ve come to interesting conclusions.

“The poorer their quality of sleep and the less they slept, the more the women consumed added sugars, saturated fats, and caffeine.”

The less women slept, the more likely they were to eat unhealthy.

Diet plays such a huge role in your health and quality of life.

I, personally, take my diet very seriously.

I want to be healthy enough to run around with my grandkids and go hiking in my later years.

One thing you can do to prepare for the future is to take care of yourself NOW.

This morning, I came across an article calling the Mediterranean diet one of “the healthiest in the world.”

The diet consists of:

  • Plant-based cooking
  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Whole grains
  • Beans and seeds
  • EVOO
  • Limited refined sugar and flour
  • Fish
  • Eggs (small portion)
  • Dairy (small portion)
  • Meat (on rare occasion)

In no way am I advocating the diet but I always encourage you to educate yourself!

I find it interesting what the BMJ journal Gut recently published…

After just one year on the Mediterranean diet, elderly people’s microbiome changed — improving brain function.

And experts say the Mediterranean lifestyle is to thank.

"Our findings support the feasibility of changing the habitual diet to modulate the gut microbiota which in turn has the potential to promote healthier aging," the study authors proceed.

I don’t want to give too much away… but it’s downright intriguing.
